01 / MAGAZINE ARTICLE AS RECORD
How to build
an F-4B,
preserved in print.
A magazine article preserved not only a finished subject, but the method itself.
Takami’s F-4B Phantom article became a public record because it appeared in Koku Fan. Through the magazine page, an individual maker’s method was communicated to readers. In solid model making, a finished model alone does not fully reveal the decisions behind its form. A building article, however, can preserve how the maker read the aircraft, where the work began, and in what order the form was developed.
In that sense, this article is more than a set of instructions for building one F-4B. It is also a record of how a jet aircraft could be understood as a solid model. This page therefore begins with the building method as it was preserved on the printed page.
