4-3 Accessories: Canopy

The canopy of the late-production Fw190D-9 was the bulged Galland-Haube type. This canopy was made by heat-pressing a PVC sheet over a wooden mold prepared for heat forming. The window frame portions are left intact, and the transparent sections are masked with cellophane tape.

Editor’s Note (H): The black lines drawn on the canopy indicate where masking tape has been applied. The tape is normally applied in two overlapping layers; after priming and sanding, one layer is removed before the final topcoat is applied.

The Galland-Haube canopy is temporarily fitted on top of the armored headrest support frame.
